Upcoming events to shake off the winter blues

We have some great upcoming events to help shake off the Winter Blues and get you rolling into Spring.  We are still in the planning stage but details will be posted as soon as they are available.


Series of Spring Hikes -  The crew is planning a series of Spring Hikes in the local Madison Area. Its a great way to get in shape and prepare for longer hikes. Everyone is invited. 


Skeet and Trap Shooting - The crew is planning a trip to the Redstone Arsenal shooting range.


Appalachian Trail  - Don't forget we are be  preparing for an Appalachian Trail hike to take place in late Spring or Early Summer......so get your hiking shoes on.

The ventures of a wonderful ski trip.

The ski and snow board trip to Winterplace WV was wonderful.  Nine venturing souls climbed into a Prius and a SUV for the seven hour trip each way.

The trip up was highlighted by a stop at Stefano's Pizza, a Knoxville favorite, near the UT Campus. If you ever visit, the whole wheat crust is the way to go. While waiting for the pizza a few of the group were able to play Ms. Pac-Man on a vintage table top machine.

 Don't let anyone tell you that you can't eat steaming hot pizza in a car because this group is proof otherwise.







The weather was warm enough that it was like skiing in the springtime.  Plus the resort was well run and the mattresses at the Holiday Inn Express were fantastic at the end of a enjoyable but tiring day.

There were a few tumbles here and there as the gang all improved
their skills. It was so enjoyable that

several individual took in the night skiing and snow boarding. At least one person was able to catch some air on purpose.

As with any ski trip eating is an important part and the group enjoyed a warm breakfast at the hotel, hearty burgers at the slopes and wonderful dinner of eggs, french toast and more at the local Cracker Barrel.

 You must always practice safety while skiing and snow boarding as well as keep an eye out for the crazy looking people.

Winterplace weather - 50 degrees and freshsnow

It's currently 27 degrees in Winterplace but the temperature is projected to reach 50 degrees on Saturday with fresh snow on Sunday. Sounds like fun.

The new 007 T-shirts are available for ordering.  This will be great for spring and summer activities which are coming up.

The cost should be between $15-20 for the Comfort Colors pocketed short sleeve shirt the same color as the shirt the design is on.

 

Ski - Snowboard trip info

The plan will be to leave as soon as possible once schools lets out. Most like 3:30-4:00 from St John's parking lot (upper). We'll get in late Friday night/early Saturday morning (8-9 hour drive,weather looks good for driving (bring pillow and activities as desired).  We'll leave Monday morning on the return trip and get in mid afternoon (3-4 pm). 

 

Food: breakfast will be at the Hotel. Lunch will be on at the ski hill (we'll bring snacks).  Dinner will be out in local area or we'll order pizza. 

 

- 16-19 Jan (leave Friday right after school and return Monday)

- $79.00 per day for lift ticket and ski rental ($158.00)

- $98.00 per day for lift ticket and snowboard rental ($196.00)

- Lodging: Holiday Inn Express Princeton WV. Cost is $205 per person for 3 nights ($68.00 per night). 2 per room (2 queen size beds per room). I have reserved 5 rooms at this time. 

- Total cost: appr $368.00 lodging/skis/lift ticket (snowboarding $38.00 more).

 Look like weather over the weekend will be highs 30-40s, lows 20-30s, and Sunday. 

 

Winterplace has a 52" base, 2" on new snow and 23 trails open.

Planning for the snow boarding and ski trip continued at this week's meeting. The snow report is looking good. Winterplace which reports  52" base, 2" on new snow and 23 trails open. Other activities are in the planning staged for this spring and summer. If you have an idea of something you want to do lets discuss it and get the ball rolling. 

If you have never been snowboarding or skiing before and we can have some pre travel instructions  and tips. We have several members that are capable of getting you up the hill and down the slope. Lessons are also available at the slopes.
